Role Reversal: Singapore Tourism Board becomes the tourists for a change in this Team-Bonding Adventure

This article is for you, if you’re a team leader or an HR leader looking for your next corporate team-building event. Especially if you’re keen on the idea of sending your team to an abandoned fortress to learn more about Singapore’s past through multi-sensory activities and a trek in nature!

Recently, our Beyond Expeditions team hosted a team bonding session for employees from the Singapore Tourism Board. Maybe you‘re wondering; but aren’t these people’s daily jobs to help foreigners discover Singapore? Doesn’t make a lot of sense for them to be further discovering Singapore in their own team bonding session too.

Well, that’s precisely the precious element of this session!

This senior executive team at STB is no stranger to Singapore's multifaceted culture and heritage. Their mission is to showcase Singapore's unique charm to the world, making them experts in their own right, and their dedication to their work leads them to pack their bags and live in a different country for 4-5 years, only to return home for the grand finale of each stint. BE recognized the opportunity to offer something beyond the ordinary, to add an extra layer of fun, knowledge, and camaraderie to their already culturally informed guests. And STB themselves recognised the opportunity to deepen their understanding of an abandoned fortress in our land, in an experiential and fun way that also serves to deepen the relationships they have within the team.

Here’s a reel that will give you a quick glimpse of what went down for STB's team-building that day!

The BE Experience

Rediscovering Heritage, Rediscovering the Team.

We led the STB team on a multi-sensory cultural immersion that had them rediscover an important part of Singapore's heritage with fresh eyes. (Pun intended here; as you will soon see, they were blindfolded for a segment of the day!)

They were taken on a journey back in time through a guided tour of Fort Serapong, and had to assume the role of a British soldier of the past and partake in interactive missions that demanded their problem-solving skills, high-level collaboration between the team members, and some sharp observation skills to catch the crucial clues they need to solve the quest!

Our trainers even taught them some wilderness survival skills, relevant to what the soldiers back in the day had to rely on to keep themselves alive during the war.

You should have been there; laughter and playful banter filled the space, as the STB team worked together and got to see more sides to each member of their team throughout the day of activities. There was ease and lightness, and you’d have seen the STB members becoming more comfortable with each other, as they faced up to the fun challenges our missions bring.

The STB team, despite their extensive knowledge of Singapore's culture, emerged from this experience with a newfound appreciation for their heritage. They discovered that the city they promote to the world still held secrets waiting to be unlocked, stories to be told, and connections to be forged. By immersing themselves in this BE experience, the STB team didn't just deepen their understanding of Singapore's culture; they deepened their bonds with each other. They returned to the office not just as colleagues but as a more tightly-knit team with shared memories, experiences, and a renewed sense of purpose.

BE's team bonding session for the Singapore Tourism Board was a testament to the idea that there's always room for growth, learning, and connection, no matter how well you know a place and no matter how well your work team already knows each other. Our BE trainers hold a strong commitment to delivering exceptional experiences for corporate work teams, and this time, they have proved that team bonding can be transformative, even in a city as familiar as Singapore.
