Beyond Limits 100

Beyond Limits is a series of yearly charity expeditions hosted by Beyond Expeditions.

Each time, we journey into the wilderness of a remote destination to complete a trek in the most extreme conditions we can dream of. We challenge ourselves to go beyond our physical and mental limits, with one aim - to raise awareness and funds for causes we believe in.

See that number at the top?

That’s right.

We’re going to keep going until we complete 100 Beyond Limits charity expeditions.

Beyond Limits is the essence of living out who we believe we are.

Ask yourself, what limits do you have? And when did you decide to accept these limitations you created for yourself?

How can we break through the concrete boundaries we’ve boxed ourselves in? Simple: an extremely compelling vision.

Once you have that, it’s all crystal clear. No ‘what if…’s, no excuses, no blaming others.

Because that’s when you rise to a different level of intensity and focus. Where all your ‘should’s (regrets), now become your ‘must’s. When challenges come your way, you will find a way; and if not, you are going to MAKE a way. That’s when the real you shows up. And you will never be able to hide that extreme level of spontaneity and excitement that you burn so passionately with, every moment of your life.

All breakthroughs start with a change in your beliefs.

So... what beliefs do you represent?”

‘Frozen’ 2.0

Having delved into the mystical realm of Taiga, nestled along the Mongolian-Russian border, we can now reflect on the adventure that unfolded – one as elusive as it was enchanting. From traversing diverse terrains, from the grandeur of steppe-taiga valleys to the rugged embrace of towering peaks and the lush serenity of dense boreal forests, we witnessed a beauty that few parts of the world can match.

The trek was no walk in the park. Beyond Limits 6 was a test of our resilience, mirroring the daily struggles our brave young cancer patients face with unwavering strength. We pushed our limits to the fullest, embracing challenges head-on.

But there was a greater purpose driving us forward – we embarked on this extraordinary journey not just for ourselves. Together, we created lasting change that transcended boundaries.

Beyond Limits 5

Wheeling through the Fiery Desert of Gobi

1 - 11 July 2023

In support of the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD)
Amount raised: $16,201

In the fifth edition of Beyond Limits, every courageous trekker pulled a tyre across the challenging expanse of the Gobi desert. This wasn't just any trek; it was a journey that symbolized the weight of hardships faced daily by those with disabilities. As we braved the scorching heat and harsh terrain, the added load of the tyre became a powerful metaphor – representing the struggles and challenges individuals with disabilities carry.

Our goal was to translate hope, love, and encouragement into action. By trekking alongside this symbolic weight, we sent a resounding message to our friends with disabilities. We saw their battles, their triumphs, and their perseverance in the face of adversity. We stood by them, reminding them that the weight of challenges tied to their disabilities wouldn't halt their journey. Just as our tyres kept rolling, so did their lives, unhindered by the weight they carried.

Beyond Limits 4

‘ON ICE’

19 February - 1 March 2023

In support of the Singapore Cancer Society (SCS)
Amount raised: $54,300

In February 2023, we embarked on a remarkable journey, traversing Mongolia's largest freshwater lake during the heart of winter. Our mission was clear: to raise essential funds for our brave cancer warriors. In the depths of winter, these warriors draw strength, much like the transition from winter to summer – a respite from bouts of nausea, a fleeting remission.

And then, for the fortunate few, a triumphant cancer-free declaration.

In our fourth and most challenging charity expedition to date, we stood alongside patients in their battle against cancer, intimately sharing their physical and emotional trials while easing their financial burdens. As winter transforms the landscape, so does a cancer diagnosis reshape our lives indefinitely. But even when the road gets tough, we find the resilience to carry on. And when we journey united, our collective strength knows no bounds.

BEYOND LIMITS FAQ

  • We've established a minimum fundraising target of $5000 for each team member. Surpassing this goal is not only encouraged but commended – exceeding the minimum demonstrates exceptional commitment to our cause. While we've set a baseline, we encourage participants to aim higher, recognizing that every additional dollar contributes significantly to our shared objectives.

For those who may face challenges reaching the minimum, rest assured that we understand the diverse circumstances of our participants. We value the effort and dedication you put into fundraising, and as long as you're making your best attempt, we consider it fair and commendable.

Understanding that fundraising can be a complex task, we want to offer comprehensive support. If you find yourself in need of guidance or strategies to enhance your fundraising efforts, don't hesitate to approach any of our experienced BE team members. We are committed to providing personalized assistance to ensure each participant feels empowered to make a meaningful contribution to our collective goals.

  • Before embarking on this unique expedition, participants should have confidence in their physical capabilities. It's important to emphasize that an expedition is not a walk in the park. In addition to our group training sessions in Singapore, participants are required to undertake individual preparations. If there are any uncertainties due to medical conditions, we strongly recommend seeking clearance from your family doctor first.

This expedition stands apart from typical holidays or guided tours as it is purposefully designed to test and stretch your limits, exposing you to extreme conditions in support of charitable endeavors. Upon being selected as part of the expedition team, the Beyond Expeditions team will organize several rigorous training sessions aimed at preparing both your body and mind for the upcoming journey. During this phase, our expedition leaders will assess your fitness level and adapt the expedition's pace to ensure we collectively attain our goals effectively. As part of our commitment to the success of the expedition, we would require 80% attendance for this group training too, as it is highly important to the success of the expedition and also essential for team members to build camaraderie.

  • Our Beyond Limits Expedition welcomes participants aged 16 years and above. While the minimum age requirement is 16, we encourage thoughtful consideration of your child's comfort with the outdoors. It's important to respect your child's preferences, and we recommend engaging in a conversation with them to ensure that the decision aligns with their interests and comfort level.

  • During the expedition, the Beyond Expeditions team will take the lead in executing the plan and making necessary adjustments promptly. Our team leaders are well-trained and have led expeditions multiple times, bringing a wealth of experience to ensure a safe and enriching journey. Local support crew which comprises our experienced guides with support vehicles will play a crucial role in providing essential support, ensuring the well-being of all participants and facilitating our successful completion of the expedition.

To enhance safety and coordination, team leaders will be appointed within the group, each leading a 'pod' consisting of 5-7 members. Your team leader will work closely with our overall-in-charge, Scott, to ensure the safety and smooth operation of the expedition. If you prefer to go solo or take an independent approach, this adventurous journey might not be the right fit for you.

  • Before the expedition, all participants undergo a comprehensive pre-expedition briefing to ensure thorough preparation. This includes a detailed overview of the entire journey, anticipated challenges, and a comprehensive itinerary, leaving no aspect unaddressed. Additionally, a comprehensive expedition deck will be sent to all confirmed participants, covering essentials such as apparel, gear, and other important details.

  • At Beyond Expeditions SG, our expedition leaders are equipped with Garmin inReach satellite phones to ensure uninterrupted communication in remote regions. The contacts of the participants’ next of kin will be keyed into our satellite phones prior to the expedition. It's important to note that the effectiveness of satellite phones can be influenced by weather conditions (such as cloudy or overcast skies and snowstorms) and terrain (especially in forested areas), resulting in varying signal strength.

  • Several participants in our Beyond Limits Expeditions have direct or indirect connections to the cause we are supporting. This presents a valuable opportunity for meaningful interactions, fostering bonds, especially during the extended duration of the expedition.

If you're eager to engage further or have specific plans in mind, please reach out to us. We're more than willing to facilitate additional opportunities for interaction, and we can coordinate with the relevant charity organizations to make it happen.

  • As a fundamental practice, it is vital that we show respect for the local culture and environment. This can be achieved by acquainting ourselves with traditional customs, following them diligently, observing the behavior of the locals and emulating it, and asking for guidance when in doubt. In alignment with our commitment to environmental preservation, our goal is to maintain the pristine and untouched nature of the area, incorporating the principles of "Leave No Trace" etiquette. Adhering to guidelines such as packing up all our trash and minimizing disruptions to wildlife and natural surroundings are exemplary rules to adhere to. For more information on the cultural practices of each country, you can refer to their dedicated pages on our website.

  • In the event of an emergency requiring your departure halfway through the trip, we will assist in facilitating your return journey home as quickly as possible. As per the agreement stated in the Terms and Conditions, all associated costs will be the responsibility of the participant. We strongly recommend obtaining comprehensive travel insurance to cover such unforeseen circumstances. If needed, we are happy to provide a travel memo to support you in the claims process with your insurance provider.

  • Losing your passport is the last thing you want to happen on any of your travels. In the event of such an occurrence, promptly contact ICA for assistance or make an online report here of the lost passport. You may then apply for a Document of Identity (DOI) here to enable you to return to Singapore. It is strongly advised to exercise utmost care to avoid misplacing your passport, given the complexities involved in navigating this process during your travels.

  • It is your responsibility to diligently care for and safeguard your gear and apparel during the expedition. We strongly recommend preparing backups, particularly in the challenging environment of an expedition. While the BE team will make efforts to assist, it's crucial to note that any claims for lost or damaged items will be processed through your personal travel insurance. Ensure your coverage is comprehensive to address any unforeseen situations.
