Mastering this technique ensures self-reliance in any environment, providing warmth, cooking, and purification capabilities.

  • Start a fire by using tools and resources that can be easily found around (we will not always have lighters and matchsticks on us!)

Master the concept of making fire by using friction, which can be transferred to other friction fire techniques.

  • Get ready for an exhilarating training session where you will dive into the world of bow drill friction fire. You'll learn about the fundamental components of this ancient method: the bow, drill, heart board (fire board), bearing block, baseboard, and handhold. Our experienced trainers will provide detailed demonstrations, guiding you through the process of crafting each component with precision and care.

  • The pump drill friction fire is a slightly advanced version of the bow drill friction fire. Using a pump-like motion, it is capable of generating more heat through friction due to the faster rotation of the spindle, producing consistent sparks for reliable fire-starting.

  • Start a fire by using tools and resources that can be easily found around (we will not always have lighters and matchsticks on us!)

Master the concept of making fire by using friction, which can be transferred to other friction fire techniques.

Under the expert guidance of trainers, you will face the exhilarating challenge of generating enough heat to create a precious ember from wood dust that can ignite a fire successfully. This hands-on experience will not only teach you a valuable survival skill, but also instill a deep appreciation for the resourcefulness and resilience of our ancestors.

  • The Swedish stove, also known as a "Swedish fire torch" or "Swedish log stove," is a brilliant outdoor cooking and heating method, offers stability and even cooking with minimal setup. It involves creating a self-contained fire using a log or stump of wood.

By igniting a vertically cut log to burn from the inside out, it provides a long-lasting heat source for extended outdoor cooking sessions. Its simplicity and efficiency make the Swedish stove a fantastic addition to any outdoor enthusiast's repertoire, elevating the camping and cooking experience in the wilderness.

  • Learning different woodworking methods to create a sustainable cooking stove.

Learn to make different designs of stoves.

Understanding outdoor cooking by using a natural stove instead of a modernised one.

  • In this exciting training, you'll explore two variations of the Swedish stove. The first method involves using a hatchet to split a log into pieces, creating a hollowed area in the middle where you can light a fire. The second method uses a saw to make vertical cuts into the log, dividing it into quarters while leaving the bottom intact.

After witnessing expert demonstrations, you'll have the chance to choose which variation of the stove you'd like to create. Plus, there's a sweet treat in store for you - marshmallows to roast over the fire, making this experience even more delightful!

Marshmallow Roasting (Level 3)

    Marshmallows!

This is a final reward for you, after a long day of learning to make fires! You’ll get to select the method you wish to use from what you’d learned today, and then we shall see who emerges with the most perfectly roasted marshmallow!
