BL8 was a beautiful journey to witness, and this video lets you take a step into their world.
After our arrival, we had a day of acclimatizing to the fresh mountain air before getting ready to embark on our first real stretch of the trekking journey.
Trekking Day 1: 14th december, 2024
As the sun rises over the rugged Bhutanese landscape, the BL8 team was dropped off at the starting point, and we officially began our 4.6 km trek from Genekhazampa to the serene Gur Campsite.
Here, the team just got dropped off at the starting point. May the journey begin.
Kicking off Day 1 of the trek with some lower body exercises; gotta make sure we prepare our bodies for the challenges ahead.
The team focused on a comprehensive warm-up routine that included exercises specifically designed to activate and stretch key muscle groups essential for leg exertion.
One final team hurrah, and…the team sets off!
The team members each had yellow tags on their backpacks, which facilitated easy identification in case the group became sparsely separated. The bright color of the tags stood out against the backdrop of nature, making it easy to spot fellow adventurers even from a distance.
We eased into the first day of trekking well. All the training they did these past few months definitely paid off!
The BL8 team successfully reached the Gur campsite, where a welcoming campfire had been set up. The BE Bhutan team had also set up the tents, which are now fully ready for use. This tranquil location quickly became a place for the BL8 members to unwind and soak in the beautiful surroundings.
Chilling by the warm and inviting campfire, everyone enjoyed the gentle crackle of the burning logs while the cool evening air surrounded us. The campfire created a cozy atmosphere perfect for huddling together over conversations.
Sangay (one of our main BE Bhutan expedition guides) enthusiastically led us in performing a traditional local dance to end the night, and everyone participated with great enthusiasm and joy. It was endearing to see how well every member embraced the experience with such zest!

Trekking Day 2: 15th december, 2024
After waking up to the crisp mountain air at Gur Campsite, we’re set for another day of adventure. Today, we’ll hike 12.6 km through Bhutan’s lush valleys and dense forests to reach the tranquil Watachen Campsite.
Nicholas slept comfortably in his very own tent last night, which he thoughtfully brought along for the trip. He was notably chirpy and smiley this morning; guess the tent was a great choice!
During the morning briefing, the team was buzzing with energy after a hearty breakfast, all ready to dive into the day.
We kicked off our second day of trekking with a warm-up routine. It soon becomes our little ritual that gets our bodies moving and our minds ready for the day ahead.
And off we go to conquer the second day of trekking for BL8!
Featuring one of our participants, Sabrina here! Always pushing hard and persevering despite the challenging and rough terrains she encounters along the way.
Scott (one of the founders of Beyond Limits Expeditions) diligently managing communications to ensure that the teams are always well monitored and watched over, while also making certain that the trek is proceeding smoothly and without any issues.
This was the designated lunch spot for our group today. Some members arrived a bit earlier than others, and we patiently waited for the entire team to be complete before we all began our lunch.
Here is a snapshot of the breathtaking view our team members had.
The trekking route prior to this was undeniably tough and challenging, so this lunchtime was a much-needed break for the entire team to congregate, recharge, and enjoy each other's company amidst the breathtaking scenery surrounding them.
The BL8 team continued to push on, as the warmth of the sun enveloped them and fuelled them forth.
Arriving at the campsite in the late evening, some members huddled closely by the small heater, warming their cold hands against the crisp coolness of the night air.

Trekking Day 3: 16th december, 2024
On our third day of trekking, we embark on a shorter, yet equally meaningful 3.1 km trek from Watachen to the Labatma Campsite.
Early morning sun rays greeted us as we embraced the day ahead. At this point, some members were brushing their teeth and freshening up. Our two ‘toilet’ tents stood ready—one for males and one for females—ensuring everyone felt comfortable before we set off into the wilderness for the 5th day of trekking.
It was a particularly cosy and fulfilling breakfast situation, where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the delightful scents of warm food within the setting of a log cabin.
Time for morning stretches again! This particular stretch effectively targets the hamstrings, which are super important when preparing to head off for a long trek.
Two of our participants, Simone and Marcella, exchanging a look of determination before starting the trek. The Breast Cancer Foundation flag you see in their hands was always to be placed on all the members’ backpacks.
Off we go; it’s officially day 3 of the trek!
As we embark on the third day of our trek, the team exemplified exceptional resilience and unwavering determination. Their spirit mirrored that of breast cancer warriors, who navigate their own challenging journeys with courage and hope.
Day 3 was definitely a challenge. The team faced slippery ice slopes, and everyone helped each other out, supporting one another to tackle the tricky spots. Each step they took together reinforced the notion that perseverance is key, not just in their current endeavor, but in all aspects of life.
The members took photos at several scenic spots! Each scenic spot held a reminder for us to appreciate the present even in the midst of a challenging time.
We arrived at the Labatma campsite for our evening rest! As we settled in, the members took a moment to appreciate the sunset over the horizon. This marks the end of day 3, and it was now time to rest in preparation for the fourth day of our trek.

The trek was rough in certain places, but the team kept pushing on together. Let this video show you glimpses of their journey amidst the beauty of Bhutan’s landscapes.
Trekking Day 4: 17th december, 2024
Trekking Day 4 brings us a challenging yet rewarding 14.6 km stretch from Labatama to Temje Campsite.
We begin the fourth day of trekking, proudly holding the national flag of Bhutan. The breathtaking beauty of this country truly inspired us, as our team diligently stands in solidarity with breast cancer warriors.
This day presented several different terrains to traverse. Rocky inclines challenged our endurance here, while slippery ice tested our balance and focus. Our team effectively adapted, relying on their accumulated trek experience to tackle each obstacle.
As we progressed, the changing landscapes provided stunning vistas, from expansive valleys to scenic ridges. Our participants leaned into the beauty of our surroundings, as they found the resilience and tenacity within them to push through.
Finally, it was time to rest! Here’s Simone and Marcella, taking a restful break against a hut.
Our BE Bhutanese nurse was a constant source of support, always ready to assist our participants with any heat spots or discomfort. He helped ensure our participants’ physical bodies were always well taken after.
Our participants huddled together during a well-earned rest break, a moment of solidarity in the midst of the challenging trek. Having companions to lean on truly makes all the difference when you're being pushed beyond your physical limits. The shared strength, encouragement, and camaraderie are what make these tough moments not only bearable but also unforgettable.
...and the camaraderie extends into the evening, where everyone gathers around the campfire to share their experiences of the day. Stories flow, laughter echoes, and the bonds we’ve built on the trail only grow stronger. It’s these moments of connection that remind us how powerful it is to journey together, lifting each other up through both the challenges and the triumphs.
To add a sweet touch to our journey, our loving BE Bhutan team surprised us with a cake to celebrate our progress, and it brought everyone together to share in the joy of the moment. A simple but heartfelt celebration that made our trek even more memorable.

Trekking Day 5: 18th december, 2024
Today’s the final day of our trek, and it took us on an 8.9 km trek from Temje to Paga Goenpa.
Say hello to one of our amazing BE Bhutan kitchen crew! They are the ones always keeping us well-fed with delicious and nourishing meals throughout the entire trek. This was such a key part of why our expedition felt organised, and truly special.
In the morning, Scott gathers the team for a final briefing, preparing everyone for the trek ahead. With the finish line in sight, there’s a sense of anticipation and excitement in the air.
And off we go, to conquer the final day of our trek for Breast Cancer Foundation!
The terrain was relentless today, testing our endurance with every step.
The rugged paths and steep climbs seemed never-ending, but our participants pushed forth, knowing the reward at the end would make it all worth it.
Midway through the trek, we paused to set up Bhutanese prayer flags, a moment of reflection and connection. As we carefully tied the flags, we cast our wishes into the wind, letting them carry our hopes and intentions for the journey ahead and for the cause that unites us.
Our BE Bhutan team thoughtfully set up a traditional white flag at the finish line, adding a meaningful touch to our journey's end. In Bhutanese culture, white flags are often used to symbolize peace, purity, and the offering of prayers. Their presence not only marked our accomplishment but also connected us to the rich cultural tapestry of the land we traversed.
And here comes our team members!
The finish line brought much emotion to all of them, as it closes off the end of their trekking journey for BL8.
Celebration and excitement was in the air, especially for these two buddies (Scott and Nicholas)!
One of our participants, Marcella, expressing her heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the Bhutan team for their blessings and support.

Last day in thimphu: 20th december, 2024
On our final day in Thimphu, Bhutan, we had the chance to roam freely, soaking in the local culture and taking a moment to fully immerse ourselves in the country’s rich heritage.
Simone and Marcella, both looking absolutely gorgeous donning the Gho (for men) and the Kira (for women).
We spent time exploring local souvenir shops, admiring the intricate craftsmanship that reflected Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage. Each piece told a story, a testament to the country's deep-rooted traditions and artistry.
Then, we stumbled upon a local archery competition; archey is Bhutan’s national sport. Even now, we remain in awe of the sheer skill and precision of the archers, who sent their arrows soaring across distances that seemed almost inhuman.
As the day came to a close, the BL8 team gathered for a traditional Bhutanese dinner. It was a feast not just of local flavors, but of stories and reflections. Over warm plates of authentic cuisine, we shared experiences, insights, and laughter, making it a moment to truly savour.
Our BE Bhutan expedition guides also took the time to share their insights and experiences from journeying with us throughout the trek, offering perspectives that deepened our appreciation of the path we had walked together. The night was warm, rich with connection, and a perfect way to close this chapter of the expedition.
And of course, how could we end the trip without a proper we-fie, right?
As with all things in life, there’s always a reason why certain souls cross paths. This expedition was no different; a gathering of individuals, each drawn here for a unique purpose.
This journey, with this specific group of people, became a gift in itself, offering each of these participants something different to take home. And when you embark on one of our expeditions yourself, you’ll discover the same.
An experience that’s meant just for you, for reasons you wouldn’t truly understand until you have experienced it.
As we wrap up the chapter of Beyond Limits 8, we take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared. Each step has been a testament to the strength that comes from pushing ourselves beyond what we thought possible. In the heart of Bhutan, we embraced challenges, formed lasting connections, and contributed to something far greater than ourselves.
When was the last time you took on a challenge that truly tested your limits?
Beyond Limits 9 awaits in June 2025, as we prepare to trek through the wilderness of Madagascar in support of the kids living in Madagascar themselves! And this time, we even have three of them joining us for trek; it’s going to be a wildly meaningful experience for both our participants and the Malagasy kids.
Join us on these life-changing journeys. Together, we’ll continue to explore, give back, and push the boundaries of what’s possible.
The adventure is far from over—are you ready for the next challenge?
